PAGE 1

Jeff entered the basement, where his Dad was watching a Christmas movie as usual. On the scene was a courtroom scene, and Santa Claus was on the witness stand.

“Hey Dad,” Jeff said. “Are you watching Miracle on 34th Street?”

“No, this is one I’ve never seen before. Santa and his elves are on trial. They’re facing the death penalty.”

“That seems a little dark. What are they accused of doing?”

"I'm not really clear on that,” Dad said. “It’s been weird so far, not very good. But I always watch to the end.”

Intrigued, Jeff sat down to watch. Santa and his elf were convicted and sentenced to death, though it was still unclear what crime they had been charged with, or if they were truly guilty.

A few minutes later, Dad paused the movie to refill his water bottle. When he returned, instead of pushing the Play button, Dad hit Input by mistake. At that exact instant, the house was struck by lightning. A surge of electricity passed through the house, and suddenly, a lightning-like beam of energy emerged from the TV, engulfed Dad and Jeff, and pulled them inside the screen.
